Tahunanui School Final Mile

Students from Tahunanui School ran around their school field, completing their 26.2-mile (42km) Marathon which is part of the KiDSMARATHON program, realizing the value of good exercise and nutrition. To see them complete their final mile, Rod Dixon joined the students and presented them with their final mile medals.

The KiDSMARATHON program involves running laps of a course, and recording the cumulative distance covered. For the students, having Rod present their meals was special as Rod used to run around the same field as a student himself.

The students all reached their final mile through determination and hard work and were really dedicated to achieving the goal.

Their teacher, Jacinda Beyer-Rieger, worked with the students and spent time with them training and encouraging them. Afterwards, she spoke to some of her students, and this is what they had to say:

Connor (8 yrs old)

“I really enjoyed the running around our school field. Also, at home I got my family involved by running around the block”

Gus (11 yrs old)

“I loved running around our school field in the morning with my friends.  Remembering that Rod Dixon also ran around that field when he was a boy was pretty cool”

Mikayla (8 yrs old)

“I found it quite tricky because I ran a lot of the time with the big kids, and they ran really fast.  I definitely got fitter”

Lochie (10 yrs old)

“It was a fun experience running a marathon.  I will continue it in the future”

Andrea (10 yrs old)

“It was tiring because I didn’t have much stamina, but I pushed myself to finish”
