New York City Marathon 2023
It is hard to describe the emotion of entering Central Park of West 59th Street and knowing that you are 400m away from crossing the finish line of the New York City Marathon. It dawns on you that have nearly achieved something you set out to do five months earlier. What started out as a throw away comment at a Christmas BBQ has now turned into reality! All the training, pain, self-doubt, missed opportunities because you have had to go for a run is about to be worth it.
My marathon journey was something I cherished and enjoyed. I got in a rhythm where I would look forward to my training runs and enjoy the solitude of just me or podcast, music or audio book for hours and hours on end.
Put the work in and the run itself is easy, sure I ran a slow time, but I enjoyed every step. The five hours I spent running through the five boroughs of New York was an absolute blast, I didn’t want to stop. The people I met whilst running, the crowd which varied so much between the boroughs had so much energy and you felt like you could feel the true soul of New York City.
You have roughly two and a half months to go before your journey is almost at its pinnacle. Keep the positivity up, keep churning out the runs, keep stretching and sleeping and eating well as every little bit helps.
When you cross that finish line, you would have run and won your race and you will realise the enormity of what you have achieved, I know you are all in great hands with Rod and Lorraine, two of the best who have ever done it. Listen to their advice and do what they tell you as it will help you when you need it.
Enjoy every step and soak it all in as not many people get the opportunity to do what you are doing. All the best team.
